With the rapidly changing situation due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many institutes, including Charles Sturt Study Centres, have implemented online learning to on par with the demanding coursework – they adamantly believe that there’s no point in wasting your precious time with the delay. Studying online has simply become the new normal – obviously foregoing student educational goals is simply not an option for many; with the ever-changing world, students are constantly trying to cope up and find their own stance by utilising their expertise. Thus, not even the pandemic should be a negative factor.

In order to get the best out of the situation, we would like to offer some valuable tips to get on with the flow.

Firstly, ensure you have all the right tools to study. CSU study centres expect students to have the necessary tools to commence their online learning. Certainly, it will require a fairly well-functioning computer and a good internet connection along with enough stationary complemented with the online study guides.

While it is possible to access and interact with most course content using various tablets and smartphones, such as iPads, iPhones and Android devices, these devices will not work for assessments and therefore it is important that you have a PC or Mac based computer available for use, with a webcam, microphone and installation of Zoom for virtual classroom.

Internet connectivity is required for access to all coursework. Internet connectivity could be in the form of a fixed line connection, 3G/4G/5G, wi-fi or other technologies. If your internet access isn’t reliable, you might get interrupted throughout your course. Worse, you’ll waste your time and resources. Thereafter, find a comfortable space where you can sit and work without distractions, any surface where you can sit comfortably with your laptop and notes is good enough. Then ensure you keep all the things you need nearby so that you don’t have to keep getting up.

Finally, it is best to keep in mind that online learning is really convenient, however in order to be successful you need to dedicate a significant amount of your time, consistently attend the program – simply be committed to your learning process by participating in the discussions actively, completing tasks on time and working with others effectively. Especially at CSU, the lecturers are quite keen to ensure that students have grasped the subject thoroughly. Thus, they always encourage students to be active and involved in the lecture by asking and answering questions. Further, always make sure that you stay motivated and engaged in your online learning experience, consider following these tips:

  • Feel free to create your study routine at your own comfortable pace.
  • Accept that you will have productive and less productive days.
  • Have healthy snacks nearby to boost your energy
  • Reward yourself every time you complete a challenging task.
  • Stay positive and keep your chin up.

Follow these study tips and you will be able to make your online learning a fun and enjoyable experience, until you are back at campus. Remember,  it is always prudent to make the best out of any situation.
